Leigh Grant joins Laurel Dance Company for the second year as a ballet teacher and coach. Ms. Grant currently receives training at the School of Pennsylvania Ballet in Philadelphia, PA; Pennsylvania Ballet Academy in Camp Hill, PA; and Susquehanna Dance Center in Mountville, PA. In 2018, she attended the artÉmotion Adult Ballet Intensive, under the artistic direction of Ballet West dancers Rex Tilton and Allison DeBona-Tilton. There, she performed in an original work choreographed by current Diablo Ballet and former San Francisco Ballet dancer Raymond Tilton. In August of 2019, she attended American Ballet Theatre’s National Training Curriculum Teacher Intensive in New York City. She holds a B.A. in Philosophy and Theatre from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, Pa. Born and raised in Lancaster, she began dancing at age five. Her training took her to New York City at Broadway Dance Center at age 10, studying ballet with Finis Jhung, Cynthia Vallone, and Madame Gabriella Darvash; hip-hop with Frank Hatchett; and tap with Savion Glover, in addition to her local dance education. At age 13, Ms. Grant received her first professional performance in pianist Dino Kartsonakis’ National Christmas Tour, performing alongside ballet dancers from Oklahoma. In 1995, she trained at Lancaster School of Ballet at the invitation of Carolyn Trythall, and at Dancer’s Workshop with Chet Zercher. Under Mrs. Trythall’s tutelage, Ms. Grant had opportunities to train with ballet luminaries Mr. Franco De Vita and Mr. Raymond Lukens, currently with American Ballet Theatre’s (ABT) Jaqueline Kennedy Onassis School, and creators of the National Training Curriculum. She also was selected by audition as a Snowflake in LSB’s The Nutcracker, alongside members of the Donetsk Ballet of Ukraine, under the direction of Mr. Viktor Yeliohin. She also attended classes at the Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet and the Rock School of Dance in Philadelphia, PA. She also was invited to master classes and coaching with artists and teachers from/with Houston Ballet, Pennsylvania Ballet and National Ballet of Canada. Near the end of her pre-professional studies, she began training at Laurel Ballet in New Holland, PA under the direction of Kathleen Megnin Millay. She performed in 1995 at the Fulton Opera House alongside PA Ballet dancers Dalia Hayes and Alexei Borovik in Laurel’s production of The Nutcracker, performing the role of Clara. Her repertoire includes the Dying Swan, La Boutique Fantasque, soloist and principal roles in The Sleeping Beauty, Swan Lake, and Don Quixote. In 2005, Leigh Grant had a modern role created on her by Kim Jureckson for the Theatre of the Seventh Sister’s Winter Dance Festival.
